St. James members aspire to be prepared to do the new things that God is making possible. We are working to honor our 120 years of rich history with consideration of taking part in a new creation. These thoughts come partly from reflections on Isaiah 42:9 and 2 Corinthians 5:17 as we prepare for our new pastor.

Bellingham, WA has become a favorite city (pop. 70,000) for residents, as well as tourists. It is located in the northwest corner of the United States. It is the county’s biggest city and county
seat with the Puget Sound to the south and west and farmlands and mountain peaks to the north and east. It abounds in the wonders of God’s creation and is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream offering

Mt. Baker Wilderness
The Bellingham community supports a strong local arts community, a regional theatre, independent dance companies and a comedy club, and provides open mics for song and literary expression.
The Peace and Justice center is one of Bellingham’s many social action and service organizations that thrive here. Here people expect to solve problems and create new opportunities.
Stommish
Diversity is valued in Bellingham. Our church looks across the bay to the Lummi Reservation; however, only 12% of the population are people of color. English is the second language for about 20% of the residents, including people of heritage from Mexico, Asia, Ukraine, India and elsewhere.
The local schools offer high quality educational opportunities from preschool through graduate studies. Colleges include: Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College, Bellingham Technical College, and nearby Northwest Indian College.
The calendar is highlighted by an annual Ski to Sea relay race on Memorial Day weekend and Lummi Stommish. Summer outdoor activities compete with the Bellingham Music Festival and Western Washington University’s Summer Theatre program.
Bellingham has been rated as one of the "The Top 5 Small Bike-Friendly Cities in America" by Bicycling Magazine. St. James installed a bike rack for “Bike to Church” Sunday.
